Why Can't I Find This?
Does anyone know if it is legal to send cookies to inmates?

Common sense says "no," (Mom's crack and chocolate chip recipe was always a hit) but I can't find anything one way or the other. Suppose I can just try and see what happens.

I bet if they are store bought and delivered in unbroken wrapping it might be okay.

I think it depends on the prison. Your best bet is to contact the prison and find out what is on their "approved gift" list. Food usually isn't allowed, AFAIK.

Who's in jail? And what kind of cookies do they need? Or is this a theoretical writer-ly kind of thing? And why do vampires need cookies?!

So many questions!

Oh yeah, and this better not be cookies for you and the guys after you get arrested for cementing in public!

*grin* Will you send us cookies, Rache?

But no, no cookies for me. A friend from Boulder is in prison for a bit, and while writing letters is probably the best thing to do, I've been struck by the urge to send cookies. Can't explain why.

Cookies are comfort food. Sending cookies to someone who is away from home and the comforting, homey routines is a natural, nurturing impulse.

I think the only things you can send to inmates are books, sent from the store (rather than from home addresses). obi.

i spoke with my friend who's husband used to work in the jails out in cali. you can't send homebaked goods, you /might/ be able to send unopened store bought ones (the rational being you might be putting drugs in them), you can send money orders that the inmates can then cash and use at the prison gift shop / snack shack.

Hmmm...tough to hide a file in a $1 bill. ;)
